Her world by MilouvanMontfort Her world by MilouvanMontfort
"People often had their thoughts about her, since her whole world seemed to be created by that owl."

First submission of 2013! Hurray! I actually planned to finish this as my last work of 2012, but there were too many things in this illustration I wasn't satisfied with. Then I thought I finished it yesterday, but I was still nitpicking. And I loved it. Lay it to rest for a while and then look back at your work while you've freshened your mind. Itīs been a very long while since I worked this long on an illustration.

I'm very pleased with the skyline by night. As well as the variety of colors in the background. I had a hard time with combining realism and surrealism. Which parts of this drawing can look a bit off and which need to look realistic?

To be honest: I'm still not 100% satisfied with the whole picture, but if I want to be, I would have to remake this work from scratch. Maybe I will, because I like the concept. But for now, I'll let this baby be how she is :)

Wow, I'm really impressed. It's clear you took your time to create something stunning and the result is just that. Like you, I especially like the cityscape, but I also think her face is very well made.
What you could have done (and I speak of something I can't even try to achieve yet, myself) is blend the colors some more, to make it look even more worked through. Maybe color the lineart as well, I think that would have a pretty effect.
But, again, I really like this piece! ^^

Thank you for your lovely comment! It's great to read why you're impressed by this :)

The color blending is something I could work on, yes. Although I also like the rough, paint-like feel of colors that don't blend with each other. I'm actually thinking of not adding any line-art the next time. At first, the face also had a line-art, but I decided to just paint over it.

Thanks a lot for the tips!

I think painted-over lineart can give so much to a picture! Unfortunately, digital drawing isn't something I do much, myself, so I find it difficult to give good feedback. ^^'

Yes indeed, it makes it less flat, in my opinion.
Thanks for the feedback anyways :) It really helps!
